From 14–16 October 2025, Prof Dr Levent Kenar has participated in the International Conference “The Future of Biosafety and Biosecurity”, held in Almaty, Kazakhstan on behalf of CBRN Society. Co-organized by ISTC and BACAC, with support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Conference has brought together over 150 experts from more than 20 countries by a shared commitment to global health, scientific innovation, and biosecurity. Topics including AI in biotechnology and biorisk management, use of synthetic biology in Biowarfare and Bioterrorism, health threats and disease surveillance, ethics of biotechnology, combating disinformation in science were discussed by global experts. Personally, our CBRN Society was honored to engage with passionate professionals, exchange views, and reconnect with long-time colleagues along with a presentation on the future of Bioagents.
CBRN are weaponized or non-weaponized Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear materials that can cause great harm and pose significant threats in the hands of terrorists or military personnel. Weaponized materials can be delivered using conventional bombs (e.g., pipe bombs), improved explosive materials (e.g., fuel oil-fertilizer mixture) and enhanced blast weapons (e.g., dirty bombs).
